Alcatel OneTouch Idol X - Specifications. Alcatel One Touch Idol X: specifications, reviews, photos. Comparison with competitors Alcatel van touch idol x plus

In 2004, the French telecommunications company Alcatel-Lucent, or rather its division that deals with mobile devices, merged with a similar division of the Chinese company TCL Communication, creating a joint venture TCL & Alcatel Mobile Phones Limited (TAMP), where 55% of the shares belonged to TCL and 45 % - Alcatel-Lucent. All phone factories have been moved to China. And already in 2005, TCL completely bought out TAMP shares and renamed the company to TCT Mobile, having concluded a licensing agreement that allows it to produce phones under the Alcatel brand. The company is currently developing smartphones under the TCL and ALCATEL ONETOUCH brands for the markets of Asia, Latin America, Europe and other regions. She actively cooperates with large operators and distributors. TCL Communication is among the top ten fastest growing mobile phone companies.

We are testing a smartphone that rightfully bears the title of flagship and meets all the canons of the market. Appearance, arrangement of elements

Generally speaking, the ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X + smartphone has a rather pleasant, well-remembered appearance. First of all, this impression is due to the extremely small bezels around the display, the size of which is less than 2 mm on the sides and 14 mm at the top and bottom. In fact, they are a little thicker, given the black border, which is visible only when the screen is active, but that still does not change the essence. The smartphone is dominated by angular shapes with rounding at the extreme points.

A visual complement to the strict style is a one-piece plastic edging "like metal" (the lower half is chrome-plated, the upper half is polished), which encircles the body along the contour and thereby adds sophistication to the novelty. The concentric pattern on the back, radiating from the camera module, looks no less interesting.

In addition, the smartphone came out quite thin (7.9 mm) and light enough (only 125 g), although slightly longer than the LG Nexus 5. Therefore, despite the rather large display diagonal, it fits well in an average hand and does not feel bulky at all. The novelty is available in black and white colors.

The entire front of the smartphone is covered with tempered glass. The manufacturer on the official page indicates Corning Gorilla Glass 2 / NEG, but on the Internet there is also a mention of Asahi DragonTrail. Along its contour there is a thin frame in the color of the case, which rises slightly above the glass.

Above the display are the earpiece mesh, round LED event indicator, proximity sensors / lighting and a front camera. Under the display - three touch buttons, which are mirrored relative to the stock Android design: Back, Home (hold down to call Google Now) and Menu (hold down to call up the Launched Application Manager). They have a uniform white backlight and are displayed only when the screen is active. There is no way to adjust the brightness or duration of the backlight, but you can turn it off.

On the top there is a power / lock button and a universal audio jack (mini-jack 3.5 mm). The bottom end contains a micro-USB connector and two rather large perforated areas, under which, it would seem, are stereo speakers. However, there is only one speaker, and it is hidden under the left grill, while under the right one is the main microphone.

Micro-SIM card slots covered with metal caps are symmetrically located on the side faces. Their fixation is carried out using magnets and is quite reliable. To open the plug, you need to click on the area with a special rounded bulge. On the right side, next to the SIM-card slot, there is a double volume rocker, which is easily located blindly.

By the way, the smartphone is available in two versions: with one SIM card and support for microSD memory cards (model index 6043) and with two SIM cards, but already without support for memory cards (model index 6043D). In addition, the differences lie in the amount of internal memory: 16 GB for the first option and 32 GB for the second. Note that we got an engineering sample for testing, so the memory in it, despite the support for two SIM cards, is only 16 GB.

On the non-separable back side there are: the main camera's peephole, barely rising above the body and having a chrome edging; one-section LED flash (flashlight software present) and mirror logo ALCATEL ONETOUCH. The rest of the place is empty. Only at the bottom are there subtle technical and certification logos (white on a white background).

It should be noted that the back of the previous model (ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X) was made of anti-fingerprint and scratch-resistant and more pleasant to the touch matte plastic. The novelty, however, is made of less practical and somewhat slippery gloss, which actively collects prints and abrasions during active use (in a white model this is not as noticeable as in a black one).

In general, the smartphone looks nice and fits well in the hand, but the location of the power / lock button on the top is somewhat inconvenient with such a display diagonal. Better, in our opinion, would be to place it on the right side, and the volume rocker on the left. And so every time you have to reach for this button or use one more hand.

In general, ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X + is built very well: without any gaps or backlash. And thanks to the non-separable body, the novelty feels monolithic, does not bend and does not change its geometry during moderate torsion. The stains appear on the display, but for this you need to press quite hard on the glass.

Smartphone ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X + is equipped with a touch-sensitive IPS-matrix (produced by Sharp), made using OGS technology (no air gap between the components), which makes the image appear on the surface itself. The display is protected by tempered glass, which has a relatively good oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating. In addition, thanks to this, a fairly good and easy sliding of the fingers is ensured and there is no accumulation of fingerprints, and those that appear are easily removed.

The 5-inch screen has a resolution of 1920 × 1080 (Full HD). At the same time, the pixel density is 440 ppi, which is more than enough to display very smooth fonts and get a fairly detailed image in general. It is hardly possible to consider individual pixels, even with a strong desire.

The brightness of the display can be manually adjusted, or automatic regulation can be activated. The proximity sensor locks the screen when you bring your smartphone to your ear. The multitouch technology here allows you to process up to 10 simultaneous touches. In general, it shows very good sensitivity even with light touches (it does not respond to pressing with gloves).

In general, the display of ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X + is very bright, quite contrasting, with maximum viewing angles and pleasant color reproduction. It should be noted that in the settings you can adjust the color temperature and saturation according to personal tastes. The maximum brightness is more than enough to view information on a bright sunny day, and the minimum brightness is more than enough for comfortable work in the dark, although the latter is slightly higher than we would like. Summing up all the above, we note that the display leaves a very pleasant impression and is an indisputable advantage of the novelty.

As already mentioned, the smartphone is equipped with only one speaker, which is located at the bottom end. Thanks to this placement, the sound is not muffled if the gadget is lying on a horizontal surface.

The multimedia speaker is quite loud and produces clear sound in almost the entire frequency range. Only when approaching the maximum volume is there a slight distortion of the sound. In general, its capabilities are quite enough for games, watching videos, calls and notifications. In principle, it will be enough for listening to music. However, it is much more pleasant to do this with headphones. The fact is that the use of a progressive Hi-Fi decoder ES9018 and a headphone amplifier Maxim9720 with support for playback in SACD 24 bit / 192 kHz mode significantly improves the sound.

Hi-Fi mode can only be activated when headphones are connected and using the installed application Music. The latter has a number of useful settings, including an equalizer. The playback experience is really getting better: the sound of compositions (of any genre) becomes more spacious and rich, the detail of individual instruments in the sound part is improved.

The smartphone has a built-in radio module that allows you to listen to and record the air of FM radio stations operating in the frequency range from 87.5 to 108 MHz. Traditionally, to turn on the radio, it is imperative to connect a headset, which is used as an antenna. A regular voice recorder will be useful not only for creating audio notes, but will also be able to record telephone conversations.

By the way, the retail package of the smartphone includes a pretty good JBL stereo headset with in-ear headphones.

The novelty supports the connection of wireless audio systems via Wi-Fi, which is quite convenient and eliminates the need for tangled wires.

During testing of the spoken dynamics, no shortcomings were found: the quality of speech transmission is clear, moderately loud (depends on the operator and the interlocutor's phone) and with a rather pleasant sound transmission.

Camera

ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X +, as befits a flagship, is equipped with two digital cameras. The front module has a 2 megapixel sensor (Sony IMX132) and a lens with an aperture of F2.2. It is capable of creating photos and videos with a resolution of 1792 × 1008 and Full HD, respectively. At the same time, you cannot create photographs when filming here.

The camera provides an image of a sufficiently high quality, which is useful for self-portraits and video calls, but its main drawback is the lack of autofocus (it is fixed here). The image detail is good. The viewing angle is sufficient and does not cause complaints. Of the modes there are Auto Retouch, Collage (with 4 photos makes one, as in Photo Booths) and a set of filters.

The main camera received a 13-megapixel module (Sony IMX135) and a fairly fast lens with an aperture of F2.0. Also available are one-section flash, autofocus, face detection, geotagging and HDR (Dynamic mode). When shooting EIS video, digital image stabilization is activated. Photos have a resolution of 4096 × 2304. Video is shot at 1920 × 1080 (30 FPS) and has a 3gp format.

In general, the quality of the photo is pleasantly pleasing. Good detail (although sometimes slight blurring appears even under very good shooting conditions), natural color rendition, correct white balance. However, night and evening shots without using a flash come out dark and with a rather high amount of noise: the camera's automation simply does not raise ISO above 1096 units. In manual mode, you can set the ISO value to 1600 units, but then there is a greater reliability of obtaining a blurred frame, since the smartphone processes the image from the camera with a slight delay.

With regard to video recording, under favorable conditions it can boast of very good quality, both in terms of detail and color rendering. However, you will hardly be able to shoot something acceptable in low light and without the use of backlighting, and you cannot manually raise the ISO when shooting video. In general, the video quality is sufficient and does not cause any particular complaints: focusing is fast; details at an average level; stereo sound. True, the camera lacks some dynamic range.

The camera software is proprietary and very simple and concise appearance, made in the same style as the entire OS shell. There are not many functions compared to smartphones of A-brands. But the application itself works pretty quickly.

User interface

ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X + comes with a pre-installed Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 operating system, on top of which a proprietary shell is installed, which has not yet received its own name. Visually, it is very pleasant, and thanks to the use of rather stylish translucent graphic elements under “frosted glass” it brings a certain lightness to the interface. Unfortunately, nothing is known for sure about future OS updates to version 4.4 or at least 4.3.

It should be noted that not only the visual component has undergone significant changes, but also a certain number of functions. So, on the lock screen, in addition to quickly calling the camera and direct unlocking, you can view the weather. The solution with division of desktops also looks quite interesting. To the left of the initial screen is a desktop for widgets, equipped with vertical scrolling and making it possible to place a lot of elements (in principle, they can be moved to other screens, but there is a fixed free space and no scrolling). To the right of the initial screen are program icons, some of which have been carefully put into folders by the manufacturer. The far left desktop is reserved for the Gallery, where pictures and photos are displayed. New desktops are added automatically when there is no more free space on others. Swinging from bottom to top on the initial desktop and tables with applications, a menu with icons of all applications installed on the smartphone opens slightly.

As we already wrote at the beginning of the review, to call the Manager of running applications, you use the hold down of the Menu button, and not Home. At first you can get a little confused, but over time you get used to it. To close running applications that have a preview, just swipe up from the bottom of the corresponding program.

A large number of pre-installed applications and games should be noted. For more experienced users who are used to installing everything they need on their own, this is a rather controversial decision. But for beginners and beginners who are just getting acquainted with the Android OS, this is an advantage. In any case, in the standard way, you can easily remove most of the unnecessary programs and games.

The settings menu has a sufficient number of intuitive items. It is good news for the updated and more pleasant white design, which should please the majority of users. So, in the item SIM Management, you can assign a SIM card that will be used for the Internet, calls or SMS. There is the ability to adjust the type and volume of various kinds of signals: from the input signal to the alert signals, turning on and blocking the smartphone, which is much more than in the "stock" version of the OS.

Note that the new product recognizes gesture control well. In the standard Music application, you can switch tracks by simply shaking off your smartphone, and to mute the input signal, just turn it upside down. Turning the ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X + will also snooze the alarm.

Once again, we note the ability to activate Hi-Fi mode only in headphones and when using the Music application, as well as support for connecting a smartphone to wireless speakers via Wi-Fi. Additionally, there is the possibility of wireless software update (FOTA) and updates from USB-drives, since there is support for the OTG specification.

In general, the user interface is subjectively pleasant and colorful. It works pretty quickly and smoothly enough.

Hardware platform and performance

ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X + is based on a powerful 8-core MediaTek MT6592 processor, based on a 28nm HPM process technology with an ARM Cortex-A7 design. The maximum clock speed of its processor cores is 2 GHz, and the L2 cache is up to 1 MB. The ARM Mali-450MP solution is used as integrated graphics - four clusters (cores) with a maximum clock frequency of 700 MHz. It received support for OpenGL ES 2.0 and OpenVG 1.1.

Volume random access memory is 2 GB, and the constant is 16 GB (this is only true for the test sample, since the retail version with two SIM cards will have 32 GB of internal memory). It is noticeable that 12.3 GB of them are available to the user. And in the retail version with 32 GB of memory, the user has as much as 26.3 GB available, which in both cases is one of the highest values \u200b\u200bamong Android smartphones. This platform supports OTG mode, which makes it possible to connect an external USB-drive, keyboard and mouse using an appropriate adapter.

Thanks to the increased clock frequency processor cores (2.0 GHz versus 1.7 GHz), the novelty was able to bypass the performance of the recently tested Impression ImSmart 2.50, built on an identical platform. Moreover, it is very close to last year's flagships based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Note that this is only possible in applications optimized for multithreading. In other cases, the more powerful ARM Cortex-A9 and Cortex-A15 cores show a noticeable lead. Taking into account all of the above, we can safely state that this smartphone is one of the fastest solutions on the MediaTek MT6592 platform.

In general, its performance is more than sufficient for almost all mobile tasks, including quite demanding resource-intensive applications and games. Dead Trigger 2 and Asphalt 8: Airborne work at maximum settings without any complaints.

Note that with prolonged active use, an unpleasant heating of the case becomes noticeable, although according to subjective feelings it cannot be called critical.

Communication and communications

The smartphone works in modern mobile networks GSM, WCDMA / HSPA + (there is no LTE in this platform from MediaTek). Working with two SIM-cards is implemented according to the Dual SIM Dual Standby standard. There is only one radio module, so when talking with one SIM card, the second one will be temporarily unavailable. It should be noted that both SIM card slots are equivalent and can work on 3G networks, but not simultaneously. That is, when one SIM card works in 3G, the other is transferred to 2G. The call quality is at a high level: there are no interruptions or independent drops, and the voice transmission is clear, although it depends on the user's location.

The set of communication capabilities is represented by Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi modules. The latter has support for 802.11 b / g / n protocols and Wi-Fi Direct, Wi-Fi Hotspot and Wi-Fi Display, but is only capable of operating in the 2.4 GHz band. There is also DLNA support.

Wi-Fi data transfer speed (wired connection 100 Mbit / s, router supporting 802.11 n) reaches 50 Mbit / s for receiving and up to 47 Mbit / s for sending. Modules work wireless networks pretty standard: everything connects quickly and keeps the connection well.

The smartphone has a GPS module with A-GPS support. The quality of its work does not cause any complaints: in an open area, it quickly detects about 9 satellites, or even more. Connecting to them takes a little more than half a minute, and the connection is stable with most of them.

Autonomous work

ALCATEL ONETOUCH IDOL X + is powered by a non-replaceable lithium-ion battery with a fairly good capacity - 2500 mAh. Such a charge with an average load should be enough for a day and a half of work without recharging. According to the manufacturer, the smartphone is able to work in the mode music player (headset) up to 36 hours. And the talk time is up to 20 hours in the 2G network and up to 12 hours in the 3G.

As a result of watching HD video using MX Player (50% display brightness, Wi-Fi and GPS modules turned on), the device was discharged in a little more than 5.5 hours (to be precise, in 5 hours and 38 minutes). The game simulation using the Epic Citadel app (Guided Tour mode) with 100% display brightness and Wi-Fi and GPS modules turned on until the battery was depleted was repeated for almost 3 hours. The estimated battery life of the smartphone according to the GFXBench benchmark is 171 minutes, that is, almost 3 hours.

The time it takes to charge the battery from the supplied power supply is unknown (since we received a test copy without a delivery kit). Charging from uSB port with a base current of 1 A is about 2.5 hours.

came out as a classic representative of the "top" segment with a pleasant and sophisticated appearance combined with high build quality. The novelty can offer an excellent Full HD IPS-display with maximum viewing angles and natural color reproduction, high sound quality (made possible by the use of a progressive Hi-Fi decoder ES9018 and a Maxim9720 headphone amplifier with support for playback in SACD mode 24 bit / 192 KHz ), good autonomy (given the platform used), as well as a bright and fairly functional proprietary OS shell. In addition, as befits a flagship, the new product boasts a fairly productive 8-core MediaTek MT6592 processor and 2 GB of RAM. Thanks to this, the smartphone is one of the fastest on this platform and in terms of performance comes close to last year's flagships based on Qualcomm Snapdragon 800. Do not forget about the support of two SIM cards in Dual SIM Dual Standby mode and USB OTG specification, which makes it possible to connect an external flash drive, keyboard and mouse.

With all this, you will have to put up with the use of glossy plastic in the case with its inherent drawbacks and not the newest version of Android OS. In addition, this smartphone is not cheap, which should be noted, but for fans of the brand and true geeks, this will not be an obstacle.

Benefits:

  • interesting and stylish design;
  • high-quality body assembly;
  • excellent Full HD IPS-display with narrow side bezels, protective glass and oleophobic coating;
  • productive hardware platform;
  • pretty good autonomy;
  • the ability to choose a model with one or two SIM-cards;
  • high-quality sound subsystem;
  • support for USB OTG specification;
  • bright and quite functional proprietary OS shell.

Disadvantages:

  • easily soiled glossy body;
  • lack of microSD support in the version with two SIM cards;
  • not the newest version of Android OS.

We express our gratitude to TCL Communication for the smartphone provided for testing.

Alcatel is slowly but steadily making a name for itself selling inexpensive, well-made phones across the entire price range. This year, Idol x The + is the flagship of Alcatel and is an inexpensive but reliable product. Powered by the Mediatek MT6592 series octa-core processor, X + is able to throttle as many processor cores as needed to balance performance and battery efficiency.

The Idol X + has the same 5-inch, full-screen display of its predecessor, the Idol X, and adds extra battery capacity (500mAh) and dual SIM support, all while becoming only 1mm thicker. The LCD panel is so close to the surface that there is no glass between the fingers and the interface.

Unfortunately, there are some shortcomings and omissions. To make room for an extra SIM card slot, the Idol X + has lost support for its predecessor's microSD card and is launching the old android version 4.2.1 Jelly Bean.

Below, in this article, you will find a detailed overview of the key features and disadvantages of the new flagship from Alcatel.

Key features:

  • Support for two SIM-cards;
  • Quad-band GSM / GPRS / EDGE and dual-band 3G with HSPA, for both SIM cards;
  • 5-inch, 1080p, IPS, LCD, capacitive, touch screen;
  • Operating system Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean;
  • 8-core 2.0 GHz Cortex-A7 processor with 2 GB of RAM, Mali-450MP4 GPU, MediaTek MT6592 chipset with eight full-featured cores and individual throttling;
  • 13MP auto focus camera with LED flash, 1080p, video recording @ 30fps, continuous autofocus and stereo sound;
  • 2 megapixel front camera with 1080p resolution and video recording;
  • Internal storage of memory - 16 GB / 32 GB;
  • MicroUSB port;
  • Bluetooth 4.0;
  • Wi-Fi a / b / g / n, Wi-Fi Direct;
  • GPS with A-GPS;
  • Standard 3.5mm audio jack
  • Stereo FM radio, with RDS;
  • Accelerometer and proximity sensor;
  • Active noise cancellation with dedicated microphone
  • Li-ion battery, 2,500 mAh;
  • Comes with high quality JBL headphones;
  • Optional fitness tracker Boom Band.

Disadvantages of the Alcatel Idol X Plus

  • Inability to replace the battery;
  • No microSD card slot;
  • No LTE;
  • A version not quite modern;
  • Below average volume;
  • The surface of the back cover is easily smudged and scratched.

Until now, Alcatel's cost-cutting strategy has relied on low internal storage, which has been offset by a microSD card. Our review unit does not have a microSD card slot and only 16GB of internal storage, and we are curious how the version with 32GB storage will perform and whether it will be as competitive as other products in the Alcatel portfolio.

The Alcatel Idol X + measures 140.4 x 69.1 x 7.9mm, which is 1.6mm taller and 1mm wider than the Idol X, while maintaining the same weight despite the increased battery capacity.
You can conveniently use the device with one hand, thanks to only 130 g of weight.

As with the Idol X, Alcatel has taken design decisions from a variety of devices. For example, the front of the phone looks like a Nexus 5 from, and the speaker grilles at the bottom look like they do on devices. The texture of the battery cover is reminiscent of the ASUS Zenbook. In any case, the end result is not bad, and the similarities with other devices should be taken as a compliment, and not as criticism of the Idol X +.

The minimum gap between the LCD panel and the front glass surface brings the image to the screen as close to your fingers as possible.

The glossy back panel is not our favorite feature. The attractive base texture is highly susceptible to fingerprints and has a surface that many manufacturers have moved away from in recent years for this very reason.

The capacitive keys below the display provide a nice contrast to the black front bezel, while the physical power / lock and volume buttons have good resistance and are firmly embedded in the case.

Fitness group Boom Band

With the Idol X +, Alcatel has also launched a fitness band called Boom Band, aiming to profitably advance the new smart wearer trends that complement. By default, the group tracks the number of steps, distance and calories burned.

More advanced features include sleep tracking, alarms, and incoming call notifications. Alcatel is designed for a maximum waiting period of 3-5 days. It is paired using the built-in Boom Band Life, which we'll go into in detail in the Applications section.

Control

The Alcatel Idol X + has a bright white LED battery status indicator located to the left of the display, along with an assortment of sensors and a 2MP 1080p front camera located to the right.

There are two SIM card slots on either side of the device, and the loudspeaker is located to the right of the display. There is a 3.5mm audio jack and a power / lock button on the top of the case, while the bottom side has a microUSB port and two iPhone-style microphone grills on either side. On the back of the phone, the main attraction is the 13-megapixel camera accompanied by an LED flash and microphone.

The back is made of smooth, glossy plastic that is very fingerprint-prone and very easy to scratch, so buy some protection for your phone in the form of a case. The panel can be removed without the use of special tools, although the SIM card slot covers will fall out of their hinges. So make sure you don't lose them.

By the way, the removable cover does not serve any real purpose, because the 2,500 mAh battery cannot be changed by the user and there is not a single slot hidden under it.

Display

The Alcatel Idol X + is equipped with a 5-inch IPS LCD screen, 1080p resolution, with a pixel density of 441ppi. It has a protective film to minimize dirt and Gorilla Glass 2 to resist scratches.

The screen is quite sharp and has good viewing angles, despite some slight contrast shift when viewed from an angle. The colors aren't the most poignant we've seen before, but a lot of people choose this screen versus the oversaturated AMOLED display, so you might like it too.

Battery life

We ran our traditional battery tests on the Alcatel Idol X + and the results are good. Alcatel Idol X + received an overall rating of 45 hours. The phone worked very well in all tasks that did not require the screen to be turned on, such as when making calls and in standby mode. When working in a web browser and playing videos, the results were far from ideal.

User interface

Alcatel Idol X + runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean operating system, with some custom additions from Alcatel. The most notable of these are two dedicated home screens: one that can be scrolled vertically and the other that rotates your gallery photos.

The color scheme and icons have changed from the base version, but in most cases they are expected to be similar. In previous versions of Alcatel phones, support for the lockscreen widget appeared. By default, Idol X + still displays weather and event notifications, but there is no way to interact with them as it was before.

There are also face, model, contact and even voice unlocking or the ability to completely disable the lock screen. Alcatel's custom widgets (clock, calendar, weather, music player) do not resize and are standard from.

All applications can be filtered by name or installation date. The app switcher is equally simple and accessible from anywhere by holding down the contextual button. To uninstall applications, there is a "clear all" button, but at the same time, more than half of the screen remains unused, which is a slightly strange choice of non-standard design by Alcatel.

The Google Now app, when you press the power button, allows you to use voice commands and integrate with your account Google to provide all kinds of information from internet searches, to your daily routine, localized traffic and current weather conditions.

The app can also perform organizational activities such as directing to places you recently searched for, etc.

Dual SIM phonebook

Phone book, on Idol X +, looks pretty basic and contains a list of all contacts, complete with photos. The alphabetical list, on the right, can help you navigate to a specific letter, or simply use the search function.

In any case, if a call comes from one of the two SIM cards, and not from an online service (Google, Facebook, etc.), an icon of the SIM card on which the specific contact is located will appear on the contact's photo.

Telephony

Alcatel Idol X + supports two SIM cards, both of which are interchangeable, which is an excellent multi-SIM switching capability. Another useful feature is the ability to bind a specific contact for permanent dialing from a specific card, which allows you to set a number in a specific network and not worry about it in the future.

Nice looking, the dialer feature is also functional and includes smart search, video calling, and even IP dialing by default. This feature allows calls to be sent directly over Voice over IP.

The SIM management tool is available from the Settings menu and allows you to enable or disable SIM cards individually. Also, it is possible to customize the assignment of individual SIM-cards to perform specific tasks (for example, to make calls), as well as customize the names and color of a specific SIM-card.

Message exchange

The Messages app doesn't have any surprises. Messages are organized into streams, and each stream shows a contact photo and two lines of text from the last post. A small logo at the bottom of each bubble shows which SIM sent / received the message.

You can switch to MMS by clicking the plus sign to the left of the text box. Attaching photos, videos, audio recordings, etc. generates a more sophisticated post editor.

The Alcatel Idol X + also comes with Hangouts, which is another way to handle word processing. However, this is not a multi-SIM, so you lose some of the finer controls in the Alcatel app, but you can still rely on binding between contacts and SIM cards.

For email, the Gmail app includes four inbox options (Primary, Social, Promotions, Updates) that Google recently introduced in its online interface. By default, the email application is similar to GMail, except that it can handle multiple POP or IMAP cells, which is useful when you want to track multiple accounts from one location.

Alcatel Idol X + SwiftKey touch keyboard

Touch is a breeze, and the integration with SwiftKey gives you many ways to do just that. You get unlocked, split, or one-handed keyboard types, as well as the ability to resize the keys to your liking and even customize the input using the current keys. Of course, SwiftKey also provides fast text input as well as voice input. google input, with stand-alone language packs.

User gallery

The default placement in the gallery is albums, the first of which is always a camera album, which also has a camera overlay icon. Unfortunately, there is no support for online albums.

You can view photos in a rectangular grid that scrolls horizontally. An alternative to grid viewing is filmstrip viewing, which is more suitable for landscape viewing as it shows large thumbnails. A nice feature here is that the thumbnails for the video files are animated, although they take some time to load.

There is a built-in editor that covers the basics of editing, i.e. cropping, rotating and sharpening, but you can also use the more advanced editor, which contains beauty tools, image controls, special effects, frames, text labels and effects for modeling. depth of the scene.

The Movie Studio app is also available so you can edit videos as well as photos. To make a video, just create a new project, add videos or photos to the timeline, and also add music. Videos can be trimmed if they are too long, and you can add text titles, transitions and special effects.

Video player

The video player has a simple interface - no animated thumbnails from the gallery. You can adjust the position of the video on the screen, but there is no subtitle support.

Video player Alcatel Idol X +

Codec support is good enough and includes all major codecs, including MOV files, which is a rarity on Android devices. You can stream videos for free using Wi-Fi Direct directly from your video player.

Music player

While the video player was a bit disappointing, the music player makes up for its shortcomings with a full list of its own functions. It has a tabbed interface that sorts music by artist, album, lists all songs, or shows playlists.

The Now interface is now basic and shows a giant vinyl record when there are no albums available to play. It includes basic features like activating repeat and shuffling, including partial shuffling, which simply shuffles your entire audio library. There is an equalizer that allows you to make adjustments, although some require a connected headset.

As you listen to the song, the lockscreen displays a full-frame snapshot of the album art, along with simple playback controls. The notification area also allows you to control playback through an expandable notification.

FM radio with broadcast recording

Listening to FM radio is pretty straightforward. You need to plug in your headphones for them to act as an antenna and the app will start playing. The sound can be played through a headset or loudspeaker. The RDS function is available and you can even record broadcasts.

Camera

The Alcatel Idol X + comes with a 13MP rear camera and a 2MP front camera. The main, rear camera has an LED flash which helps with low-light photography.

With the help of the Alcatel Idol X +, we got some beautiful photos. At 100% magnification, they seem to be a bit too bright, even in daytime shots, but the overall level of detail resolved is encouraging. At times, the camera skewed the exposure in high contrast situations. Quite often, we had to use touch focus to get the camera to read its tonal characteristics and provide a more balanced overall exposure.

Camcorder

The camcorder turns on with a simple click, by switching mode. The 13MP camera can capture 1080p video (Superfine), while the front camera is limited to 720p (Fine mode). The main camera can use the LED flash as the video light.

The Alcatel Idol X + records video in 3GP format, which we have not seen in a long time. It records video at 17 Mbps and audio records at 129 Kbps, but the 3GP codec is rather outdated and not the optimal format for recording full HD video.

The Alcatel Idol X + videos are not as good as the pictures taken with the camera. They come out smooth, but lack the level of detail we are used to getting from flagship smartphone cameras. However, they are not a complete disappointment and might work just fine for you.

Connection set

Alcatel Idol X + has a quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G interface for both SIM cards. There is no LTE antenna available as it is not supported by the MT6592 processor. Its 3G supports DC-HSPA + and speeds up to 42 Mbps and 11 Mbps, while its dual-band Wi-Fi supports a / b / g / n as well as Wi-Fi Direct.

The good news is that any SIM card can be used to connect to the database, so you can match your carrier's plans for maximum cost savings. If your carrier supports this feature, your smartphone will also use HD Voice, which offers better sound quality during a call than standard, and there is also an IP Dial option for VOIP calls.

Wi-Fi is also used to wirelessly mirror the display on a TV, with Miracast support. Other connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.0 and A-GPS. A dedicated media sharing application can take care of this feature, or you can use it directly from the video player.

You can also use a Wi-Fi transfer app to quickly send pictures, videos, and other files over Wi-Fi Direct, and let another phone quickly transfer the app from Idol X + over Bluetooth if it doesn't have one.

Browser

Alcatel Idol X + has both Android browser and. Both are very similar in functionality.

All the enthusiasm of users about the appearance of the Alcatel OneTouch IDOL X has already subsided, now new experiences are needed. They are provided on time by the Chinese company TCL, which produces devices under the Alcatel brand. In January 2014, she announced the release of a new flagship - Alcatel OneTouch IDOL X +, which received high marks at the exhibition in Los Angeles.

Since this model has not yet appeared in stores in Russia, it is difficult to say exactly what its packaging will be. However, with a high degree of probability, we can assume that it will not differ from the packaging of its older brothers: a white box, which depicts the device and modest inscriptions.

The package bundle, most likely, will not surprise either. But in addition to the standard set, the manufacturers decided to offer a special fitness bracelet Boom Band, which is designed to track the physical activity of the wearer and his sleep phases. All this (by transferring data via Bluetooth) is analyzed using a special application in the smartphone. In addition, the bracelet will record the removal of the user from the device, as well as report new notifications.

Externally, Alcatel One Touch Idol X +, of course, is similar to its popular predecessor, but due to the fact that the X + has a more capacious battery, its thickness is slightly thicker than that of the X. The back cover is glossy, the ends are made of metal.

Time will tell what body colors will be presented on the Russian market, but we can already say that there should be more than 2 of them.

The device fits nicely in the hand, as its body has a streamlined shape, the corners are rounded. On the bottom there is a slot for micro-USB and 2 earpiece speakers, on the top - a standard 3.5 mm headphone jack and a power button. This device supports 2 SIM-cards, the slot for one of them is on the left, for the second - on the right, in the same place as the volume.

In general, having seen a smartphone at an exhibition in Los Angeles, everyone noted the 100% similarity between TCL Idol X + and Alcatel One Touch Idol X +. The characteristics of its screen are the same - 5 inches, Full HD IPS. The display occupies almost the entire front panel of the smartphone, the thickness of the frames is just 1.3 mm It also has an anti-scratch coating for easy removal of fingerprints.

Brightness, contrast and viewing angles (over 170 degrees) are just as good as all devices with such a display.

Its androidity (Android Jelly Bean 4.2) is visible throughout its interface. 5 desktops that scroll horizontally, just like the application menu; at the bottom - 4 main icons; on desktops - the necessary widgets that you can install at your discretion.

How fast the applications work can be estimated very soon, but disappointments can hardly be expected, since the heart of the device is a MediaTek 8-core processor with a frequency of 2 GHz. And 2 GB of RAM promises good performance.

13 MP camera with optical stabilization is launched from the application menu, separate button to enable it, no. Its settings are the same as in Idol X, and test shots showed how good it is.

You can certainly enjoy the process of taking photos and videos a little longer than using the Alcatel One Touch Idol X, simply because the battery capacity of the new product is 2500 mAh, which is significantly more than that of the previous model. True, this led to a heavier and thicker device, but these few grams and centimeters are unlikely to be noticed by those who will really admire the phone.

Surprisingly, the price of the Alcatel One Touch IDOL X +, whose review shows that it shouldn't be low, is now around $ 330 in China. And this is only 12,000 rubles. And if everything is really as promised by the manufacturers, then this model will fly like hot cakes!

In addition to a cable for connecting to a PC and a charger, a good wired headset is included with the device, which is perfect for a user who is undemanding to sound.

Dimensions - 4.5

We consider the main competitors of this smartphone to be the Explay Dream and Lenovo Vibe X, so we will compare its sizes with them. The 6040D is 6.9 mm thick and weighs 130 grams. For comparison, the Explay Dream weighs 133 grams, is 9.4 mm thick, and the Lenovo Vibe X weighs 120 grams, and is the same 9.4 mm thick as the 6040D. Separately, we note that the smartphone we are considering today is one of the thinnest. The main material used is matte smooth plastic, the back cover and ends of the device are made of it. From the point of view of practicality, the use of such plastic is justified: the model does not slip in the hands and it is simply pleasant to hold it. As far as the assembly is concerned, we had almost no complaints about the device - all the parts are tightly fitted to each other, there is no backlash. The only drawback we can call the power button too deeply recessed into the body, it is not very convenient to press it.

Screen - 4.3

Display diagonal - 5 inches, screen resolution - 1920 × 1080 pixels, matrix type - IPS. This screen uses OGS (one-glass-solution) technology - that is, there is no air gap between the screen and the protective glass. This solution improves the quality of the image and makes the picture visually closer to the user. The screen has maximum viewing angles, good brightness, excellent picture clarity and natural colors. We tested the Alcatel One Touch Idol X display in sunny and semi-dark conditions. In the first case, the display almost completely "fades", and in the second, the minimum brightness level was not enough for comfortable reading, I wanted to reduce it a little more. In general, the screen of the model left a positive impression, it has good viewing angles, a clear picture, natural color rendition and a high level of maximum brightness. Thanks to Full HD-resolution, any, even the smallest text looks as clear as possible, the same applies to viewing photos. In our opinion, the main disadvantage of the display is the lack of an oleophobic coating; when using gestures, the finger often gets stuck, and the screen itself is harder to wipe off fingerprints and dirt.

Camera

The smartphone has a 13 MP camera with LED flash. The maximum resolution for video recording is 1920 × 1088 pixels, the recording speed is 30 frames per second, the sound is recorded in stereo. The quality of the camera is average, it is only suitable for undemanding users. Considering the Alcatel One Touch Idol X as a replacement is clearly not worth it.

Working with text - 5.0

The manufacturer did not pre-install its own keyboard, but decided to leave the built-in keyboard from Google. This solution has both pros and cons. Among the advantages, we note the convenient location of the keys, the ability to quickly type numbers by holding the key, as well as support for gesture input (Swype). The key drawback, in our opinion, is a very meager dictionary in the keyboard, it does not know most of the Russian words, so if you make a mistake while typing, then you should not count on the keyboard to automatically correct the typo. Thanks to the large screen, you can type text with two hands, the erroneous presses are minimal.

Internet - 1.0

As in the case of the keyboard, the manufacturer did not replace the built-in browser with its own. In this particular case, we do not see any problems in such a solution, since the standard browser from Android 4.0 is one of the best in terms of usability and speed. The browser supports auto-adjusting text to fit the screen, for this, after enlarging the text, you need to double-tap the screen, and the text will automatically adjust, this is a very convenient option. There is no separate reading mode, and this is a minus.

Interfaces

The smartphone has the following interfaces: Wi-Fi (b / g / n) (there is no support for dual-band Wi-Fi), Bluetooth and GPS. But NFC and LTE are missing. In our tests, the GPS cold start took quite a long time, unfortunately, this feature is present in all devices using MTK chipsets.

Multimedia - 4.6

We tried to play various video files on Idol X: the smartphone supports most popular formats and codecs, the player plays videos in high quality, up to 1080p. Of the supported video codecs, we note H264, DivX and xVid, and from the MP4, AVI and MKV formats. The audio player in the smartphone plays only the popular formats MP3, AAC, FLAC, WAV. In our opinion, you can use the 6040D as a portable media player without any problems.

Working hours

The smartphone has a non-removable lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh. Our test results are as follows: when watching HD video at maximum brightness, the device is discharged in 4.5 hours (7 hours for the Galaxy S4), while listening to music - in 30 hours (50 hours for the Galaxy S4).

Performance - 1.9

The device uses the MediaTek MT6589T platform with a quad-core 1.5 GHz processor, the graphics subsystem - PowerVR SGX 544MP, the amount of RAM - 2 GB. Unfortunately, the capacities of MediaTek chipsets are not always enough to ensure maximum smartphone performance at FullHD-resolution. So when working with the browser and all modern games, there are no problems (the same Asphalt 8 starts at maximum settings), however, when paging through desktops and navigating through the smartphone settings, we noted that the device does not work smoothly enough.

Memory - 1.0

The built-in memory in the smartphone is 16 GB, 12 GB is available to the user. There is no memory card slot. In our opinion, this is a significant drawback of the device.

Features:

In its devices, Alcatel uses its own shell with a number of interesting features. For example, the dialer has a Smart Dial function (when you dial the first numbers or letters of a contact, it is automatically displayed in the list), the lock screen has got quick access to the camera and other applications, and the desktop interface has changed slightly (icons of built-in applications have been completely changed). We also note the device's support for working with two SIM cards at once. However, due to the use of only one radio module, when making calls from one SIM card, the second becomes unavailable.

A stylish smartphone with impressive technical characteristics is the Idol X. Initially (in 2013) it was positioned as a mid-range solution. But now, 2 years after the start of sales, this device can be safely attributed to the budget class of devices. It is its capabilities and technical parameters that will be described and discussed in detail in the proposed material.

Equipment

Typical configuration of this "smart" phone (as for the device of this manufacturer). There is nothing unusual about it. It includes the following accessories and components:

  • Smartphone itself with rechargeable battery 2000 mAh.
  • Charger.
  • Entry-level wired stereo headset.
  • Interface cord.
  • A short instruction manual (it also contains a warranty card at the end, on which, when buying a device, the seller must put his seal and fill it out completely).

The list above clearly lacks a cover. The body of the device is almost entirely made of plastic, it is not difficult to damage it, and it will be quite problematic for the owner of this gadget to do without this accessory. Although the front panel of the smartphone is protected by the shock-resistant Dragontrail glass, it is recommended to glue a special protective film on the front panel of the device in order to exclude various kinds of damage. It is also not included in the delivery set, and this accessory will have to be purchased for an additional fee. Also, owners of the single-symbol version of this phone will have to purchase an external flash drive. The phone has only 8 GB of internal memory, which is clearly not enough for comfortable work today.

Gadget design and its features

Most of the front panel of the gadget is occupied by a touch screen. Its diagonal is equal to the impressive even by today's standards - 5 inches. The left and right bezels are only 2.4mm wide. Not every mid-range smartphone currently boasts such a characteristic. The length of its case is 141 mm, the width is 68 mm, and the thickness is equal to the “fantastic” 6.9 mm. Its weight is very small - 130 grams. For a device with such dimensions and characteristics, these are really phenomenal indicators. There is a window above the screen front camera, there is a conversational speaker and several sensors. Backlit controls are located under the display. It consists of three standard buttons. On the underside of the smartphone are harmoniously located: a hole for the spoken microphone, a USB port. On the right are the buttons that provide volume control. If Idol X does not turn on after briefly pressing the lock button (located on the upper edge of the smartphone), then you need to hold it down for 5-15 seconds and wait for the device to turn on. Here, on the upper edge of the device, there is also an audio port (3.5 mm). It is used to output the audio signal to the wired speaker system. It can be either speakers or headphones with a microphone. On the back cover, in addition to the manufacturer's logo, there is also a "peephole" for the main camera with LED illumination, and a loud speaker.

Computational basis

Alcatel One Touch Idol X is based on one of the most productive 4-core chips from MediaTech - MT6589T. It consists of four computing modules based on the architecture code-named Cortex-A7. The maximum frequency of each of its computational modules can reach 1.5 GHz, and no other CPU from this manufacturer can boast exactly the same values \u200b\u200bor higher. At the time of the release of this gadget, this semiconductor crystal allowed solving any problems. But now, after 2 years, he will no longer be able to cope with the latest generation of the most demanding toys. And here the problem is not in the CPU itself, but in the fact that software has appeared designed to run on 64-bit platforms, and this processor can only perform 32-bit calculations. All other tasks on this computing platform are performed without problems (watching videos, playing simple games, reading books, listening to audio, and so on).

Device video card

As graphics accelerator used in this device PowerVR SGX544MP. At the time of the start of sales, this video accelerator made it possible to solve all problems without exception. But now more demanding games of the latest generation have already appeared, which will simply run on it. But at the same time, this graphical solution still allows you to solve most everyday tasks. This includes browsing the Internet, reading books, and playing videos (including movies), and even mid-level toys - all this is within the power of the Alcatel One Touch Idol X with such a graphics card.

Display

The Alcatel One Touch Idol X phone is equipped with a 5-inch display. Its resolution is equal to today's impressive standards - 1920 x 1080. It is based on a matrix made using IPS technology (hence the impeccable color rendition). Well, with the help of OGS technology, the picture on the screen is not distorted even at angles that are very close to 180 degrees. Even now, two years later, not every mid-range gadget, let alone entry-level gadgets, boasts a display with similar specs. In addition to everything else, the screen in this device is protected by Dragontrail glass (an analogue on the surface of which is applied (it does not leave fingerprints on the front panel of the phone).

Cameras

The main camera of Alcatel One Touch Idol X also has impressive parameters. The photos obtained with its help are really high quality. It has a 13 megapixel sensor, which is also manufactured by Sony, a leading manufacturer of sensing elements for phones and cameras. A similar sensor is used in Samsung Galaxy S4 and Sony Xperia Z. The developers did not forget to equip this gadget with an autofocus system and LED backlight. This camera can record video in 1080p format (with a refresh rate of 30 frames per second). A more modest sensor on the front camera is only 2 megapixels. But this will be quite enough for selfies or making video calls using the same Skype, for example.

Memory

Now we disassemble the Alcatel One Touch Idol X from the position of the memory subsystem. The amount of RAM in different versions of this gadget is always the same and is equal to 2 GB. At the same time, system processes take up about 700 MB. The remaining 1300 MB can be used by the owner of the smartphone to run the application software. The capacity of the built-in storage in a 2-SIM version of such a device is 16 GB. In this case, there is no slot for installing an external drive. But the single-symbol version of this device is equipped with only 8 GB of disk space, but in this case, instead of a slot for a second SIM card, there is a slot for installing a 32 GB flash card. If, for some reason, the specified capacity of the integrated drive is not enough, then you can use "cloud" storage services, for example, Yandex disk.

Smartphone autonomy

Alcatel One Touch Idol X is equipped with a rather modest battery, as by today's standards. Its characteristics are really not impressive: 2000 mAh battery based on lithium-ion manufacturing technology. According to the manufacturer's assurances, the specified standby capacity should be sufficient for 320 hours in second-generation cellular networks and 240 hours in 3G mode. In reality, with such a battery and similar technical characteristics, you can count on maximum savings for 2 days autonomous work... If you use this device to the maximum, then the battery will have to be charged every evening. At the same time, there is no guarantee that he will be able to precisely finalize it until the evening. As a result, it is imperative to purchase additionally which can be used when the main battery is low. In this case, your phone will definitely not let you down. But in this case, you will have to carry an external battery with you and also monitor its charge level.

Communications

The communication set of this smartphone includes the following interfaces:

  • Wi-Fi is the main way to exchange information with the World Wide Web.
  • Mobile networks of GSM and 3G standards. They allow you to make calls and exchange SMS. They can also be used to organize an Internet connection. In the latter case, it will even be possible to make video calls.
  • The GPS sensor allows you to locate the device with a high degree of accuracy. Also, for these purposes, sometimes A-GPS technology can be used.
  • Bluetooth is perfect for those cases when you need to use a wireless headset or exchange data with a similar mobile device.
  • A wired speaker system can be connected to a smartphone using an audio port (3.5 mm).
  • Micro USB allows you to charge your battery or sync your device with a PC.

Software

Smartphone Alcatel One Touch Idol X, as expected, operates under the most popular operating system for various mobile devices - "Android". Its version is 4.2. Of course, this is far from the freshest system software today, but its availability is quite enough to run most applications. The only thing that will not work on this 32-bit version of the operating system is the latest 64-bit applications of the latest generation. On top of the operating system, the proprietary shell of this manufacturer of mobile gadgets is installed. Its interface is quite reminiscent of a similar MIUI shell from Xiomi. Besides standard applications (calendar, calculator, organizer "and so on), the installed software includes clients of international social networks (for example, Facebook) and a set of mini-utilities from Google (Gmail +, Chrome, and so on). The rest of the user will be forced to install from the content store ("Play Market").

Current price

Although it has been 2 years since the start of sales, the price has practically not changed for the Alcatel One Touch Idol X. Reviews highlight its rather high cost. The smartphone itself has long been discontinued and now you can buy it only from stock. Well, regional dealers bought the device at a fairly high price, below which now they cannot lower its market value. It is currently priced at $ 375. Its starting price was $ 500. On the one hand, the device has dropped in price by $ 125, on the other hand, now you can buy the Xperia M4 from Sony or the Mi4 from Xiaomi for the same money. Any of these devices in technical terms is an order of magnitude better than Idol X. As a result, this smartphone does not look so good a purchase against the background of analogs that can offer their owner much more for the same money.
